While the world celebrated the arrival of a new year, Chicago-born Nigerian artist Olawale Abiola Akinde, known globally as Spinero, released his most personal project to date tagged OdunYemi (EP).
On New Year’s Day, the multifaceted Afro-fusion star officially dropped his latest EP, “OdunYemi,” across all major streaming platforms.
The title, “OdunYemi,” carries a weight far beyond its literal translation of “The year favors me.” In a moving gesture of love and remembrance, Spinero revealed that the EP is named after his late Mother.
This 6-track collection serves as a living tribute to her memory, blending the joy of his Nigerian heritage with the bittersweet beauty of a son’s homage to the woman who shaped him.
Born in Chicago but deeply rooted in the vibrant culture of Nigeria, Spinero has long been praised for his ability to bridge two worlds. With “Odunyemi,” he elevates his signature blend of Afrobeats, R&B, and Pop by infusing it with a sense of purpose.
The project isn’t just a career milestone; it is a sonic monument to family and resilience.

Project Highlights
The EP opens with “Love,” a soulful track featuring Kestroo that feels like a warm embrace. “Back,” featuring Jiggy and Samdot, brings the rhythmic intensity of the Chicago streets and Lagos dancefloors together.
While tracks like “Casamigo” and “All Night Long” are destined for global playlists, it is the underlying theme of the EP that resonates most. By closing the project with “Boss” and “A Milli,” Spinero showcases the “boss” mindset his mother likely inspired—one of ambition, hard work, and honoring those who came before.
Naming this project after my mother was the only way I could truly start 2026,” Spinero shared. “She is the reason I have a story to tell. ‘OdunYemi’ is my way of making sure her name and her spirit are celebrated every time these songs play.”
With this release, Spinero proves he is more than a hitmaker; he is a storyteller with a heart for his heritage.
“OdunYemi” is available now on Apple Music, Spotify, Audiomack, and all major streaming services.
